Standing on the Promises of God: The Power of His Promises

Image
Promise: a declaration or assurance that something will happen. (natural). “I had fainted unless, I had believed to see the Goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” – Psalms 27:13 In this season of my life, I have found it to be both challenging yet adventurous. These last couple of months I have been searching desperately for God to carry me through this hard and difficult season. Throughout the pruning and stretching, GOD has truly restored me and has given me a clear perspective of who I am and why it is to live holy. (See “A Call to Holiness” Blog). At the end of this trying season, I have finally arrived at this place of newness and holiness, but most of all acceptance. In order to accept God’s promises for my life, I must accept myself. I am learning to cling to HIS promises and not what I see. The bible says, “ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans.” (Psalms 118:8-9) Why does God say that? He warns us of ourselves and others. As hum...

From Grace to Grace; Graced to Life

Image
Grace: favor; good will. The free and unmerited love and favor by God. This is my first blog in a couple of months, but I won’t say that I’m back and better than ever because that would be really cliché of me. It just doesn’t feel authentic. In the past few months, my life has seemed like a whirlwind. I am a full-time student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a daughter, sister, friend, and servant. During my season of difficulty, I forgot who I am. The events that added me up to me looking in the mirror and not knowing whom I was left me feeling like I was having an identity crisis and although it felt like a personal internal battle the events were only triggered by what was happening to me. The first event was a friend of mine committed suicide. I find it so hard to believe because I grew up with the young man and his sister. We all ran in the same circle growing up and it was heart-breaking. I will admit that his death personally affected me like ne...

Identity Crisis: Lost and Found

Image
How do you discuss a topic when you are constantly finding yourself? I'm 22. There's so much that I have yet to learn and old habits that I am unlearning. One of the things that millennials or young adults in general tend to struggle with is identity. Your childhood, social or cultural experiences is known to contribute to shaping your identity. My story is a similar one, but I have finally found the strength to be both vulnerable and transparent instead of grappling with emotions and never coming to terms with acknowledging them. Last year when I first began blogging I talked about my testimony and through that you guys got some insight through into my life.  One of the reasons why I struggled with identity is because I struggled with rejection. When I was in the womb, my birth mother didn't want me. However, she was nice enough to give birth and place me up for adoption. Most adoptees or parents who've went through that process understands how tedious and st...

Faith vs. Fear: Trusting God Through The Storm

Image
There is a difference between the two. Faith is trusting GOD during a battle where FEAR keeps you from accomplishing, believing, dreaming, achieving. In 2018, I lived in fear. To be quite honest, in 2016 is where the seed of fear was planted in my heart. I don’t know when, where, or how. I just know it was. In retrospect, 2016 was a difficult year for me. It was my second semester in college and I lost my father in May. I couldn’t believe it. I was so broken, and I questioned how God could do this to me again. And I say again because I lost my father in 2001 at the age of five. I say all thing to say… Do not let fear keep you BOUND. 2016 and 2017 was years that I doubted myself and worried about everything. In 2019, I spent New Year’s Day bringing it in at my church. The youth revival was on Fire and remember the Lord telling me to get up and RUN! Running represent freedom and it requires action and that was my first step in 2019 that I would take. I ran away fear, dou...

The Pruning Process

Image
Prune: to cut away. To reduce the extent of something by removing unwanted parts. In the natural realm, pruning takes place in gardening and gardeners cut off the branches of trees to make them bear better fruit or grow higher. It is also done for maintenance, to make it have a better appearance. In a past tense state, we use the word pruned and it means to be cleared unsuitable or superfluous. This same process takes place for us as we grow In Christ, when we accept salvation we are baby Christians or spiritually immature, but when we ask God to prune us and uproot those old habits or nasty characteristics we can be truly used by him. In John 15:1-8 it states “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” This verse provides a physical representation of pruning. We are the branches or vine, and God is the gardener. How can...

A Call to Holiness

Image
“Without Holiness, you will not see the Lord.”– John Piper Hi Brothers and Sisters, Happy New Year! With the rush of new goals, excitement, and the freshness of a new year it is easy to fall back into old habits if you aren’t self-disciplined and dedicated to life a holy lifestyle. This word has been on my heart for a while and God told me to move and stop sitting on it. While spending time with God, he let me on something. People are attending church and owning the “Christian” title without putting in the work. You may be wondering what is the work? I read my bible, I attend church every Sunday, I attend bible study, and I post scriptures on Instagram. None of that is defined as holy, but a routine. Putting in the work is simply having a heart after Jesus and continually seeking him when things aren’t going your WAY! I don’t want to ever get stuck in a routine in any capacity, especially not with Jes...

Big Move: Waukegan, IL to Milwaukee WI

Image
“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” – Genesis 12:1 '"You called me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail, an there I find you in the mystery in oceans deep. My faith will stand." -Hillsong Worship Two months ago, I made a huge move. I moved from Waukegan, IL to Milwaukee, WI. And although, it is only 55 mins in distance the move was not easy for me in terms of adjustment and loneliness . As some of you know I moved to Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to my move, I attended my community college back home by the name of College of Lake County. At this instituion, I grew exceptionally as a student leader and I found Jesus. My first semester I felt a whole bunch of things excitement and nervousness. However, I adjusted when I found that I was leader. I was a full-time student and was a President of a women’s organization called Sister 2 Sis...
